TGIF!
My mother had a small business all while I was growing up.

It was unusual, but except for the parents of Alicia from Biology class, my mom was the only one that I knew who didn't work at a "job."

My narrow perspective was based on everyone else's family dynamic when it came to working parents. After school, we were all free to do as we pleased, riding bikes through the neighborhood or heading to the Mall, as a pack of early teens, with only homework to worry about.

At a certain time (during the school year, we said our good-byes when the street lights came on) it was evident that I was not like the others. Everyone else's parents seemed to come home before my mom. That was my cue to go home too.

I'm sharing this because, sacrificing for the business and the income, and the opportunities we tell ourselves it all leads to, is part of the equation when you have a business.

There are only a few ways to cut corners if you really want to go the distance (i.e. outsourcing).

It wasn't all hardship, though. Yes, I remember my Mom living large, taking exotic trips out of the country, unlike any of the other parents (without kids). We had big cars (when that was a thing), the first mobile phone of anyone I knew (it was like a brick!), and because it was a long commute to her business, she bought a small portable TV for the back seat (she was ahead of her time), for the times when we went to work with her. That was back in the 70's!

My point is, if you haven't already noticed, being self employed is not a cake walk! There will be times where you say 'no' when you'd rather say "yes," and times when, what has to get done seems insurmountable. The deal is, when you hunker down and get the job done, the reward is that: getting the job done. So don't forget to pat yourself on the back from time to time!

These are the times when knowing your WHY and understanding the benefit of Deep Work will pull you through! Because, in the scheme of things, you are in it to make your younger self proud, and create the skillset for a successful future self, waiting for your arrival.

Does she still work weekends? Probably. But, she's reaping all the benefits from all of your hard work and commitment to the sacrifices that you are dealing with, LIKE A BOSS!
